In the heart of Auvergne with its incredible natural surroundings and rich cultural heritage, lies a haven of elegance and revitalisation: Vichy, the “Queen of spa towns”.

Just moments away from the incomparable art nouveau Opéra and the banks of the Allier river, Jacques and Martine Decoret opened their property in 2008. They extended a superb brick chalet built in 1857 under Napoleon III, adding a contemporary conservatory and a green roof, combining authenticity, luxury and a flair for design.

The Michelin-starred restaurant of Chef Jacques Decoret pays tribute to the region of Auvergne with its delicious compositions combining the best local products, childhood memories and a technique developed alongside some of the greatest in the business.

In addition to its restaurant, Maison Decoret has five beautifully designed rooms for a relaxing, comfortable stay. It is one of the most intimate Relais & Châteaux properties and welcomes guests in a contemporary setting with furniture from the Second French Empire. An understated and elegant atmosphere

Jacques and Martine Decoret,
a charming couple with a vocation and a passion for their local region

Recognised for his inventive nature, Jacques Decoret has more than 25 years of experience as a chef. He was born in the Bourbonnais Mountain in Allier, just like his wife Martine, and although it was local products from Auvergne which revealed the couple’s vocation, it was in Switzerland that they launched their careers before climbing the ladder: in Lausanne, Geneva and Nyon.

On their return to France in 1990, they trained in some of the most prestigious kitchens in the country: Maison Troisgros in Roanne, La Côte Saint Jacques in Joigny, Le Moulin d’Abbaye in Brantôme, Alain Passard’s L’Arpège in Paris and the Régis Marcon restaurant in Saint-Bonnet-le-Froid.

In 1996, Jacques Decoret received the prestigious Meilleur Ouvrier de France award.

Two years later, Jacques and Martine decided to open their first restaurant in Vichy: a bold move which saw their hard work rewarded with a Michelin star in 2000, making the Jacques Decoret restaurant the only Michelin-starred restaurant in Allier.

In 2008, Jacques and Martine Decoret added a four-star hotel to their restaurant, moving to a chalet dating back to the Second French Empire. Their dream became a reality as they opened a complete, coherent and sophisticated property: Maison Decoret.

An incredible story for a couple with such a close relationship and who have passed on their good taste and expertise in the art of hospitality to their children. In turn, Alexis (who currently works at Troigros), Antoine (who works at Lenôtre) and Agathe, their youngest child, will all contribute to the future of the family business. Generous and humble, Maison Decoret is witness to Jacques and Martine's dream coming true: continuing the tradition of the truly French art of living and honouring the culinary history of their native region.
